Personal Best Fun Runs

Long Marston Airfield has been very active in the world of Personal Best and Charity Runs. The very first run of this nature took place in 2007 in aid of Cancer Research with a 10K distance using the runways and old taxi ways and parts of the surrounding land as off road routes for the 500 plus runs to navigate round.

Today, the Personal Best Runs held annually on the airfield in March and November are organised by two very dedicated young ladies; Catherine O' Carroll and Martine Verweij. Both have a very strong background in this field of athletics, and are keen runners by taking part in many runs and marathons up and down the country. Four years ago both girls formed a multisports management company - Raceways, and are actively involved in the Kid's Run Free project based in nearby Leamington Spa.

“Martine & I are living our dream of being involved in sport as a hobby,” says Catherine. “Through our work as well as getting the next generation more sports orientated we believe this is the best way to lead healthier happier lives.”

As well as having fun while running, Saturday’s race will also help to support the Leamington based non profit making organisation ‘Kids Run Free’ which is designed to encourage children towards running in the current climate of rising childhood obesity and cut backs in school sports funding.

Kids Run Free also hosts FREE running races for toddlers to teenagers (0-16 years) on the first Saturday of every month in the West Midlands and aims to host free races all across England by the end of 2015.

Sometimes run in difficult conditions the annual 5K, 10K and Half Marathon distances are contested by some of the countries leading athletic clubs with both male and female personal best records being achieved. Some run just for fun or a chosen charity but everyone makes it round what is regarded as a flat but challenging course.
